Jumping right in…
It occurs to me that the current repackaging of systems of societal expectation, from feminism to racism to sexual orientation/identity, gains power when people abdicate their personal responsibility to maintain an internal moral code, and act accordingly.
These repackaged systems are, if we go along with them, a trap. They allow others to undermine our clarity, confidence and ability to think critically. They are designed to manipulate us into agreement with the socially acceptable. In other words, peer pressure.
Please trust yourself. There is a little voice inside you that knows, knows its own sense of right and wrong. The trick is to see how emotional appeals are used to convince you that:
- Your internal code is wrong.
- That you, then, are wrong.
- That you deserve some sort of punishment for not thinking the “right think” as proscribed by some external source.
It is time we take back agency, reject fear, and open our eyes enough to ask, “Why?”
